Project B, Journal Entry 2

Date: 2. 4. 2023

Activity:
 - Implemented the rest of the Project A design document

Notes:
There were a couple things I didn't think of when making the initial design so I made a few minor changes:

  • Made the pressure plate that resets the first moving platform also reset the door in the platform's way.
    • When actually playing the game, I realised that if the player doesn't hit the door switch on time and misses the moving platform, he can still hit the switch later, fall down, reset the platform and the door is still open. I wanted the player to have to hit the switch on time and so I made the pressure plate for reseting the platform also reset the door. Now, if the player doesn't hit the switch on time, he has to fall down, reset the platform and try the whole thing again.
  • Moved the info post a bit to the right
    • In the design, the info post is in such a place that the player has to walk over it. Walking over it displays a message and that can get a little annoying if the player can't avoid that. I moved the info post a bit to the right so the player can choose if he wants to read the message or not.
  • Added an invisible barrier next to the exit teleporter
    • There's a gap where the design explicitly states that the player shouldn't be able to jump over it. After some testing, I figured out that if the player moves the box to the very edge of the platform it's standing on and jumps off the box while mashing the melee attack button, he can jump over the gap. I fixed that by adding an invisible wall next to the teleporter platform.

Overall, I'd say I'm pretty happy with how the level turned out. Though I have to say, it can get a little annoying with the insta-kill spikes everywhere :)

Also, the spitters are usually pretty much useless. It takes them way too long to actually start doing anything after they notice the player that it's not too hard to just kill them before they even get the chance to attack (and that's after I made them see like twice as far). Might have to do something about that later...

Invested hours:
About 4 (+ whatever's in the last devlog I guess)
